Fallout New Vegas Guide: How to Win Caravan Card Game Easily

One of the many cool extras in the Collector’s Edition of the upcoming post-apocalypse RPG Fallout New Vegas is a set of playing cards made to look like it was created in the Fallout universe. There’s also a unique card game called Caravan that you can play in the game itself.

One of the new games to play in Fallout: New Vegas is a game called “Caravan”. Involving a crap load of rules and tricks, the following guide will help you win.

At first, you should know about the RULES:
Caravan is played with two players building three opposing piles (also known as ‘caravans’). The goal is to outbid your opponent’s caravan with the highest value of numbered cards. The catch here is that you can’t be too low (under 21) nor too high (above 26).

Then you can enjoy your game.

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 1:

You begin the game by taking eight cards from your deck. Keep in mind the fact that your Caravan will have to follow either a suit order, or a numerical value order.

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 2:

Once you have your eight cards, you begin by placing either a numerical card (2-10) or an Ace on each caravan. Remember that your pile is going to have to follow suit based on your first card placed, and follow a numerical order following your second card. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot by placing a card down that you have multiple of right away, or one that is much higher or out of suit than your other cards.

Note:
remember that you can press ‘up’ or ‘down’ on the joystick to move the card to an appropriate position. For instance, say you have an ’8′ you want placed in a certain order, move it to it’s spot by pressing the joystick up and down. Also, if you want to get rid of the opponent’s cards, say with a “jack”, simply move the card up to their caravan.

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 3:

Once you have placed a numerical card or Ace on each caravan, it’s time to start building them to a number between 21 and 26 (while outbidding your opponent). So if you take a look at the picture above, you’ll notice the top deck has 19, bottom deck has 10. The goal is to get that number between 21 and 26 before your opponent.

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 4:

Once you have a number between 21 and 26, you will be able to move on to the next caravan, where the goal is the same.

1.
Caravans go in either ascending or descending order numerically, and are assigned a suit.

2.
The suit is determined by the first card placed on a caravan, the numerical direction is assigned by the second card placed.

3.
Cards must then follow this pattern, with cards of the same numerical value not being able to be played.

4.
Face cards can be attached to numeric cards, and affect the game in a lot of ways. Click here for full description.

5.
Remember, you can either play a card in the assigned numerical value, OR a card in the assigned suit.

6.
Also important to remember you can play cards on your OPPONENT’S HAND as well.

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 5:

Once you have a card on all three caravans, you may do one of the following on your turn:

1.
Play one card and draw a new card

2.
Discard one card from your hand and draw a new card

3.
Get rid (disband) of one of your entire caravans

Win Caravan Card Game in Fallout New Vegas Step 6:

Once you get your three caravans to a number between 21 and 26 that you feel won’t be beaten by your opponent, you win the game.

Note:
Okay, I’ve just now gotten the 100 wins benchmark. Here’s what I have learned.

1.
Keep your jacks for use against your opponent.

2.
If you have 3 stacks between 21 and 26 and still aren’t winning, remember that you can’t have a tie with your opponent.

3.
If you feel that a card can be placed but for some reason it won’t go, it’s most likely out of suit. If you have a Queen, use it and this should fix the problem.

4.
King’s are critical cards when you are starting out. The best move that I have found to work is to lay down a ’10′, then a ’6′, then place your King on that ’10′. Instant 26.

5.
I always discard my Joker, as they tend to only take up room and are rarely ever used.

6.
While an Ace may seem unimportant, they are critical in situations where you are outbidding your opponent.

How Face Cards Work:

Joker:
Can be played against an Ace, or cards numbered 2-10. Multiple Jokers may be played on the same card.

////////////
1.
If played on an ace, the Joker removes all other non-face cards of the Ace’s suit from the table. In other words, if you have an Ace of Spades and play a Joker, all cards (2-10) that are of Spade suit are removed from the table.

////////////
2.
If played on a numerical card (2-10), it removes all cards of that value from the table. Example would be if you play a Joker on an 8, all 8′s (with the exception of the one you played the Joker on) would be eliminated

Ace:
Value of 1.

2-10:
Have listed value.

Jack:
Can be played against Ace, or a numerical card.

////////////
Removes that card, plus any face cards attached to it.

Queen:
Can be played against Ace, or a numerical card.

////////////
1.
Super important to understand- a Queen reverses the current direction (ascending or descending) of the hand, plus changes the suit of the hand.

////////////
2.
Also keep in mind that multiple Queens can be played on the same hand.

King:
Can be played against Ace, or a numerical card.

////////////
1.
Adds the value of that card again. Example: play a King on a 6, and you will add 6 to your hand.

////////////
2.
Multiple Kings played on same card multiply the value of that card. Example: 6 + King = 12, where 6 + 2 Kings = 24 (because 6 + King equals 12, and then 12 + King equals 24).
