Email Card Trick

Credit card fraud is down but online fraud on the up by cardiff jobs
In a recent poll, credit fraud in the UK has dropped by at least 23%. Despite the good news for many consumers about this figure, online fraud has also rose over 55%. Consumers and card holders have lost out on nearly 232.8 million. Scammers have found new ways to scam card holders, such as card ID fraud. This type of scam has risen up to 23%.
The head of fraud control located at the UK Cards Association, Katy Worobec, stated that despite the good news of credit card fraud decreasing, people should not let their guards down completely. Adding to the online scams is the Internet banking fraud. Despite the rise in online fraud, big credit card companies such as MasterCard and Visa are doing damage control by adding more security. These security measures include the ‘MasterCard SecureCode’ and the ‘Verified’ by Visa.
Some fraud experts believe the fall of credit card fraud may have had something to do with criminals moving on to foreign issued cards that do not have pin and chip protection. This can be supported by the fact there was a 36% increase in foreign issued cars over the past year. More sophisticated methods and techniques are being implemented in order to get customers’ card details.
One of these techniques includes the use of malware. The virus program is installed on the victim’s computer with or without their knowledge which has resulted in a 26% rise in phishing scams. Fake emails are then made to the customers in order to trick them to giving up personal bank information.
Consumers are encouraged to remain suspicious of emails from their bank or online merchant. This can be achieved by having up-to-date anti-virus software installed. Because of the ongoing problem, many banks have now offered free anti-spyware programs.
Tips to Avoid Fraud:
-Never let your card out of site when making payments (this includes restaurants, gas stations, shopping malls, etc.)
-Try to limit the amount you use your card over the phone (ordering take-out over the phone using your credit card).
-Destroy or shred documents and old bank statements. Make sure to check bank statements on a regular basis to make sure there are no unusual purchases or charges.
-Never share your PIN number or login details to any email or phone calls from people claiming to be a representative of your bank
-When entering your PIN number at an ATM machine, use your hand to block the card’s view so that secret installed cameras or people waiting behind you cannot see you’re PIN.
